Peace of the Gaelic Blessing

Today in thousands of churches across the world millions of Christians will share the peace with each other, so I bring to you the peace of an old Gaelic blessing because I am not Irish and it’s not St Patrick’s Day and (as far as I know) the Irish haven’t won anything this weekend!

Deep peace of the running wave to you-

Deep peace of the flowing air to you-

Deep peace of the quiet earth to you-

Deep peace of the shining stars to you-

Deep peace of the Prince of Peace to you.

May the road rise to meet you

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face.

May the rains fall softly upon your fields.

Until we meet again-

May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

  1. Rutter did the most amazing version of the Gaelic Blessing. For me it’s one of the best hymns to sit really quietly to when meditating on the Word.
